‘The Canadian sensation will perform at Pigeon Island on Sunday May 13’
SAINT LUCIA (April 23, 2012) - Melanie Fiona’s double coup at the Grammy Awards in February has sparked excitement among organizers of Saint Lucia Jazz.
Director of Tourism Louis Lewis describes this feat as a game changer. Describing Grammy acclaim as an open sesame to the big time, the big bucks and the big billing, the Director added “but we scooped her first” in the process adding tremendous star power to the festival this year at pre Grammy pricing.”
“We are elated at Melanie Fiona’s recent Grammy fame and thrilled at her new CD released last month. The CD is racking up some great reviews which we expect to build anticipation for her Pigeon Island performance. Grammy fame enhances the reputational value of Saint Lucia Jazz,” Director Lewis said.
On the heels of her Grammy coup, the gifted song writer/singer officially announced the release of her new record THE MF LIFE. The reviews are pouring in. The album features production input from Salaam Remi of Amy Winehouse fame, No ID of Kanye West ilk, JAY Z the legend behind Rihanna, and Andrea Martin who produced Melanie Fiona’s #1 hit, “It Kills Me”. It also features NAS, John Legend, B.o.B, and J. Cole in guest roles and lyrical input from Drake. “4 AM”, the current single from THE MF LIFE has already racked up over 4 million views on VEVO, which has worked wonderfully in building anticipation for the new release.
Canadian born with Caribbean roots, the 29 year old siren carries a multi-ethnic brand that cuts across race and resonates across age groups and popular genres.
Melanie Fiona’s young career has been in fast track mode since her debut single "Give It to Me Right" (from debut album The Bridge in 2009) which peaked at number 20 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart and number 41 on the UK Singles Chart within weeks of release. "It Kills Me", her second from the same album, entered the Billboard Hot 100 Top 50, and then topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. While the debut record The Bridge scooped an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding New Artiste, the single “It Kills Me" would take her into the hallowed halls of the Grammy with a nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
Three years later in 2012, Melanie Fiona captured awards for Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B song for "Fool for You" which she co-wrote with Cee Lo Green.
With at least three critically acclaimed hit singles, two Grammy awards, and a new full length, star powered compilation, the R&B music industry is tracking the impact of MF Life and Canada’s hot new breakout star, across the six major cities where she is booked to perform almost weekly, right through to the Pigeon Island main stage of Sunday May 13th.
