Unique Wedding Locations
Your ceremony can take place before a rushing waterfall such as the beautiful Toraille Falls, or in a lush tropical garden that’s reserved exclusively for the two of you, the registrar and your guests. You’ll never forget the experience of walking through the scattered petals of exotic flowers to exchange rings in your own secret grove.
Alternatively, you could opt for a wedding among the flamboyant colours of Diamond Botanical Gardens, or on the historic battlements of Pigeon Island National Park – a favourite spot of Lorna and Kevin Shimmin. She says: “We absolutely love Pigeon Island. The beach is secluded, peaceful and perfect – in my opinion, it’s one of the most romantic places on the island.”
Further options include a lighthouse, a clifftop villa, a plantation estate... how you make the leap into wedded bliss is limited only by your imagination.
Better yet, there’s no need to make the arrangements yourself. The island is home to a number of independent wedding planners who can organise every last detail, from filling out paperwork to enlisting a florist and photographer.
Getting married in Saint Lucia is easy. Under island law, there’s no minimum residency requirement. You can apply for a marriage licence just two days in advance, or even on the same day for a modest premium. Only a passport and birth certificate are required, plus additional documentation for those who are divorced, widowed or under 18.
Many hotels have dedicated wedding co-ordinators, and can provide special packages for brides and grooms. The Hibiscus Wedding at Royal by rex resorts, for example, includes the registrar, celebrant and legal fees, plus such requisites as the bridal bouquet, groom’s buttonhole and wedding cake.
Saint Lucia’s luxurious resorts have their own attractions as wedding venues. Stay at Jade Mountain and you can tie the knot on the amazing Celestial Terrace, with a clear vista across the glittering sea to the twin peaks of the Pitons. The ocean-front gazebo at Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa is a sublime spot to make your vows in earshot of the whispering sea.
At Cap Maison, the choice of locations includes a private 46-foot yacht as well as ‘Rock Maison’ with its sublime views over Martinique and Pigeon Island. It’s also the perfect venue for intimate dinners à deux as twilight falls over the Caribbean Sea.
And now that you’ve reached paradise, why go elsewhere for the honeymoon? After the ceremony, there’s every reason to stay on and celebrate those precious first days of married life on the island. One option is to choose a resort that’s reserved wholly for couples, such as Sandals– which offers all-inclusive ‘WeddingMoons’.
You’ll be equally reluctant to leave Rendezvous, a chic boutique hotel for couples that has been managed by the same family since 1966. Set on a two-mile beach, it’s an oasis of tranquillity with palm-shaded gardens, a secluded rockery and a lazy river flowing through.
