Caroline, a travel agent from Luxury Holidays Direct (Sunset Faraway Holidays), was blown away by the world class service she received on her visit to Saint Lucia. Here, she talks about her experience on island, and gives a few tips on what to expect on a luxury holiday.

I arrived into Castries airport in the north of the island from another Caribbean Island; however the main international airport (Hewanorra) is actually based on the south coast of the island near Vieux Fort. I was amazed to see the lush abundant mountainous scenery awaiting me, a complete contrast from other Caribbean islands I have visited, at this point I was desperate to get off the plane and start my Saint Lucian journey!

After a short transfer and an insight into the North West Coast with a drive through Rodney Bay and Gros Islet, which is home to the must visit Friday night jump up street party I arrived at my first point of call. The Landings Resort & Spa sits on one of the best beaches at the end of Rodney Bay (A great location if you want to go out to Restaurants and bars in Rodney Bay), and is built round a Marina.

The Landings St Lucia

From the moment I walked into the impressive main lobby I felt at home! This is a resort with top of the range villa accommodation, from the luxurious upholstery to the L`Occitane products in the grand bathrooms, whether situated around the Marina or overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the villas are not to be missed! The resort is great for everyone from couples, families or groups of friends looking for that bit of luxury.

Cap Maison

After this I headed off to Cap Maison in Cap Estate. This resort is perfect for people wanting to get away from it all at a peaceful luxurious hacienda style property perched on a hillside over looking the Caribbean sea, with a short walk down to the secluded Smugglers Cove beach and a great beach bar, The Naked Fisherman. Cap Maison is perfect for Foodies as it is home to The Cliff at Cap Restaurant which is the best restaurant on St Lucia, and home to Cellar Maison (the best wine cellar I saw on my journey through Saint Lucia!)

The next stop would be The Bodyholiday, my first experience of an all inclusive resort with a difference. This resort is built into a secluded bay and really has the wow factor and in my opinion a great concept!

The BodyHoliday

Now I am by no means a fitness or sports enthusiast, but the range and abundance of activities you can partake in are simply mind blowing and the Spa area which is situated at the top of the resort is the biggest I have seen! Anything you can think of on a Spa menu they will have with world class therapists to pamper you, with a spa treatment included daily. I opted for the deluxe coconut & spice combo, let’s just say I was on cloud 9 for the rest of the day. The food was out of this world from the A la Carte restaurant Tao and Windows which offers you an experience where the chef showcases fantastic 7 course taster menus with a different wine to accompany each course! This is a lively resort, but you feel that you can dip in and out of the activities and entertainment at your own pace, and if you wish just have a relaxed peaceful beach holiday, the choice is yours!

Beach at Rendezvous

After leaving The Bodyholiday and making my way to the south west coast I stopped in at Rendezvous which is a couple’s only resort, from the minute I arrived I felt that this was something special, it had a lovely feel to the place with stunning rooms, which were recently renovated to a very high standard through to the lovely pools and restaurants available – The Malabar Beach club was a great spot for a nice relaxed lunch, this really is a perfect couples only resort and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to every couple young or old!

At this point I was over half way through my trip and I must say I was really getting a feel for Saint Lucia. The people of Saint Lucia in my opinion were just so friendly and always wanted to help. Throughout the trip I got to see many species of bird and plant life that the island had to offer, especially on my journey from the North West coast to the South West coast.

The scenic drive was about 1 and a half hours and really was a fun drive through lush green landscape and then going through the mountains which lead you down into Soufriere…this is a wow moment when you come down the mountain as you can see Petit Piton in the distance which is breath taking and I can honestly say I think my jaw dropped! At this point I was just about to enter something I had mixed feelings on before I went on the trip, I was not sure how I was going to cope sleeping in a room with only 3 walls…well that fear went straight away as I was mesmerised by what I walked into! Anse Chastanet and JadeMountain is like nothing I have ever seen before. After a bumpy half hour ride round a mountain we arrived at this amazing paradise, I was whisked off to my room at AnseChastanet to start my journey with nature!! I was lucky to have a suite that looked over both Petit and Gros Piton mountains.

Jade Mountain

The views were like views I have never seen before, truly breath taking, and one I frequently think back to whilst sitting at my desk in Croydon! Let me just say at this point that the three walls were no problem at all during daylight or night time, and is a must for all to experience. The resort is simply a huge expanse of lush vegetation leading down to a lovely beach. The design and concept of both Anse Chastanet and JadeMountain is simply outstanding and should be witnessed first hand! The food was out of this world, the best steak I have had in a long time I had here at Tree house Restaurant and the Kai Belte Spa was fantastic, another satisfied customer!

I left here feeling suitably relaxed and was now heading to Sugar Beach A Viceroy Resortfor my last night in Saint Lucia. The drive here was stunning as it is situated between both Pitons. You enter this hotel at the top and wind your way down to the bottom where paradise awaits you…this really is the crème del a crème of hotels, complete luxury and delight awaits you. A charming young man greets you with a bow tie and a cooling drink! At this point I was feeling very content. I was taken by tuk tuk which I thought was a great concept to my Luxury Villa in the hills and my own butler was awaiting my arrival.

SugarBeach, A Viceroy Resort

The white wood and dark wood floors compliment each other nicely and this is seen through all the different Guest rooms, Villas, Bungalows and Residences. After a dip in my private pool which over looked Petit Piton… not the worst view to have from your own pool, I asked my butler to order me a tuk tuk to take me down to the beach and pool where I was going to relax! And that is exactly what I did; both the beach and pool are stunning with fantastic beach and pool service and not to forget the super comfy sun beds. There is a fantastic range of activities for everyone, so perfect for families, friends, and couples…anyone would be ecstatic to be here! The food here was world class, a stunning meal was had at the Great Room and for breakfast I had the best Eggs Benedict I have ever had at The Terrace. I slipped into a sumptuous big four poster bed for a great last nights sleep, dreaming of all the amazing places I had visited on this trip. I can put my hand on my heart and say Saint Lucia really does have an amazing selection of world class Luxury accommodations, all set amongst breathtaking back drops….I will be back again to experience more of the Creole magic this diverse island has to offer!
