Saint Lucia’s festivals and events are made by the people who keep them going: flower societies who rehearse for months, mas bands who bring Carnival to the streets, communities who cook and dress for Jounen Kwéyòl. Joining in brings you closer to island life as Saint Lucians live it. Some dates change from year to year, so check each event before you book. Every spring, Saint Lucia’s long-running jazz festival brings international headliners and Caribbean artists together, from big open-air evening concerts to smaller, closer sets. Alongside the music, Art and the City turns Castries into an open-air gallery for local artists. If festival week is your reason to travel, plan ahead.
Lucian Carnival builds all July with band launches, fetes, soca and calypso competitions, and the National Carnival Queen pageant. It peaks on Carnival Monday and Tuesday, when masqueraders in feathers, beads and colour take to the streets. You can join a mas band and play in costume, or find a spot along the route and follow the music.
Mercury Fest came back in 2026 after six years off. It fills an August weekend with beach parties, a Poker Run by boat along the coast, and live music at Pigeon Island. A seafood village serves the day’s catch, and the Gros Islet Friday Night Street Party opens the weekend. It has become a big draw for visitors from Martinique and Guadeloupe.
La Rose is one of Saint Lucia’s two historic flower societies, and its feast day is a full display of tradition. After a church service comes a street procession, led by a royal court of kings, queens, princes and soldiers in costume. The music comes from violin, banjo, cuatro, shak-shak and drums, and the evening moves to quadrille and belair dances passed down through generations.
Events and celebrations take place across the island, bringing Creole identity to life through traditional food, music, language, and vibrant community gatherings. The festivities culminate in Jounen Kwéyòl, one of the highlights of the season and one of the most authentic cultural experiences Saint Lucia has to offer.
La Rose’s rival society takes its turn in October. The Marguerites mark their feast day with a church service, a procession and a costumed royal court, then an evening of song and folk dance. Months of nightly singing rehearsals, called séances, lead up to it, and the two societies still try to outdo each other in dress and pageantry.
On the eve of National Day, Castries lights up. Handmade lanterns, made for a competition earlier in December, parade through the streets. Christmas songs and dance follow, then the lights come on in Derek Walcott Square and fireworks go up over the city. Paper lanterns are also set on the harbour as wishes for the season. The festival honours Saint Lucy, the patron saint of light and the island’s namesake.
