Zamani

Roots & Soul

This award-winning triple threat artist is impacting the Canadian East Coast music scene at the tender age of 17. Described as captivating, satiny-soulful and refreshingly pure, Zamani skillfully composes, produces, and performs a unique brand of R&B, Soul, Jazz and Pop. Hailing from a musical family, her mother an award-winning singer and songwriter and her father an award-winning smooth jazz guitarist, Zamani’s unique musical style reflects a variety of eclectic musical exposures. Greatly inspired by divas past and present, Zamani’s influences include the likes of: India Arie, Erykah Badu, Nina Simone, Betty Carter, Natalie Cole, Lalah Hathaway, Mariah Carey and Beyoncé.

Zamani’s first foray into performing began at age 13 with an invitation to perform at a popular gospel concert where she both surprised and wowed the audience with her mature sound. However, it was her debut jazz performance at the Halifax TD International Jazz Festival in 2016 that won her the praise of Jazz Festival headliner Sharon Jones of – Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. That performance earned her a spot on the African Nova Scotian Music Awards (ANSMA) and a host of other shows. In 2018 she was named co-recipient of the ANSMA Portia White Youth Music Award. That same year, award winning Montreal-based jazz vocalist Jeri Brown named Zamani a recipient of the Jongleur Youth Arts Performance Award.

The past calendar year established Zamani as one of Nova Scotia’s most promising emerging artists. Her local performance credits have stacked-up as she has taken to the stage of Jazz venues, soft seaters, house concerts, festival bandstands, concert halls and music industry showcase venues. She ended 2018 on a high-note capturing a lead role in the World premiere of Viola Desmond – The Musical.

Now with three single recordings recently released to Soundcloud, two music videos released to YouTube (“Switchin Lanes” and “Lush Life”) an R&B recording set for release in the summer 2019, along with a summer performance lineup that includes performances in Vancouver, Toronto, Holland (The New Skool Rules Festival) and St. Lucia (Roots and Soul Festival), Zamani is poised to make her international debut.
